Insomnia
Insomnia is the most
common sleep disorder. It varies from:
- restless sleep
- disturbed sleep
- difficulty in
falling asleep
- a reduction
in the usual time spent sleeping
- complete wakefulness
While most adults
need the traditional seven or eight hours of sleep a night, but some adults
are short sleepers and function well on only three or four hours. So-
how do you know if you suffer from insomnia?. If loss of sleep impairs
your ability to function well during the day, it might indicate a sleep
problem like insomnia.
There are many causes
of insomnia including:
- stress
- environmental
noise
- extreme temperature
changes in the surrounding environment
- sleep/wake schedule
problems such as those due to jet lag
- medication side
effects
- depression
- underlying health
problems such as arthritis, kidney disease, heart failure, asthma, sleep
apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, Parkinson's
disease and hyperthyroidism
